Try it yourself by entering your text in the box below, picking a size and style of font, and then a colour. To see the results click on the Preview button. A small box will pop up which will give you instructions for saving the file to your computer. Go ahead and use it as many times as you like, it is FREE!

Xara also produce my favorite vector editing program, but that is not a freebie so more about that later.

But if you are looking for free photo editing software you could try the Gimp which is suitable for both PC and Mac users, although it does take a bit of getting used to.
Another option, if you use a PC, is Serif's Photoplus, as they provide older versions to download at no cost, allowing you to create free word art, such as the examples below.

When creating your own titles keep in mind the size that you want the finished printout. A useful number to keep in mind is that a 72-point font should be roughly one inch high.
For the title below, I used a "render clouds" filter to the word baby. I then added a second filter, "inner shadow", to the word to make it look somewhat puffy and raised. The font used in this example was Cooper Black.

Next I used two different fonts, one heavier than the other (Lucida Calligraphy and Cooper Black) selecting the letters in the word "wish" and applying a Lenticular Halo effect. A few adjustments to get the halo to start in between the I and the S were all that was needed here. Very simple, but very effective.

As you have seen, using graphics software to create free word art can open up infinite possibilities for your scrapbooking titles for both your traditional pages and your digital layouts.
