Scrapbooking Quotes
Choosing the perfect one!

Scrapbooking quotes or inspirational sayings can be used for either the title or journaling on your pages.

Searching for a quote that expresses exactly what you feel when you look back at a series of photographs can take time, so I have collected many of my favourites on the site, as a starting point for you. You can click on the links below to check them out.

How do you choose just the right quote for your special page?

We all know the saying "A picture is worth a thousand words" but often just a few words can give meaning to those pictures. Sometimes you may start with a quote and find pictures that illustrate it. Other times you will have pictures that you want to use, and need a quote or saying to go with them.

The following tips may help you make your choice.

Scrapbooking Quotes
  1. Short - A good scrapbooking quote should be able to get the message across with very few words. It should set the scene and then leave it up to the photographs to take center stage and tell the story. Think of it as a bridge of thought between the words and pictures.

  2. Relevant - You, the scrapbooker, may pick words that have a hidden meaning in relation to the photos, but to make an effective scrapbook page it is helpful if anyone that views the page can understand the connection. It is fine if they have to think just a little, but you don't want them left scratching their heads in confusion.

  3. Touching - Good quotes should invoke your emotions. Whether you say "ahhhhh, how sweet" or if you laugh at the memories that come flooding back when you look at a page, your quotes should strengthen that feeling.

  4. Mnemonic - Try to pick a saying that is easy to remember. It should be hard to get it out of your mind after seeing it, just like the words of a song are carried with you all day, if you hear it on the radio at breakfast time.

Whatever quote you choose for your page, it should help to remind you of the events or people portrayed in your photographs. Often it only needs a gentle prod to start you reminiscing, and although the photos do this by themselves, a well picked quotation can help to point you in the direction your thoughts were taking when you created the page.

Adding scrapbooking quotes to your layouts

Once you have chosen the perfect quote, you can add it to your page in a number of different ways.

Handwritten quotes are the most personal, but many people are worried that their writing is not neat enough. In which case you could print the quote out from your computer, use stickers, rub ons or rubber stamps (if they are available).

Another option would be to cut out the letters on a die cutting machine such as a Xyron, Sissix or Cricut. You could make them different sizes or cut them from different papers to add a unique touch.
